MIGUEL CATALAN MEDAL

GEFAM will award the “Miguel Catalán” Medal to a scientist presenting exceptional contributions and research record in the field of Atomic and Molecular Physics. This prize is a tribute to Prof. Miguel Catalán (1894-1957), one of the leading figures of the Spanish science in the so-called “Silver Age” of the initial decades of the XX century. The Medal was established in 2018 and first awarded to Prof. Dudley R. Herschbach (Harvard Univ.) The second recipient of the Medal was Prof. Fernando Martín (UAM Madrid). Nominations are accepted till January 30th, 2025 and will be decided by the GEFAM board. The Medal recipient will be announced at the Conference.

DELGADO-BARRIO AWARD

GEFAM will award two “Delgado Barrio” prizes to young researchers (one experimental, one theoretician) in the field of Atomic and Molecular Physics or Chemistry. This prize is a tribute to Prof. Gerardo Delgado Barrio (1946-2018), founder of GEFAM and the IBER conference, and President (1997-2005) and Gold Medal of the Spanish Physics Society (RSEF). The candidate scientists must be younger than 35 years old, working in a Portuguese or Spanish research center, and participant at the Conference. This prize is sponsored by the Delgado-Barrio family and will be presented at the IBER 2025 Gala dinner. 

The award consists of a Diploma and a monetary prize (1000 euros/prize – minus taxes). Nominations including at least a CV and a presentation letter should be addressed to gefam@rseq.org before May 31, 2025 (self-nominations are accepted).

RSEF-GEFAM PRIZES TO THE THREE BEST POSTERS

The Royal Spanish Physics Society (RSEF) will give three awards to the best posters presented by a Ph.D. student, consisting in a Diploma and one-year free membership to the RSEF, which includes the Journal “Revista de Física”, discounts for membership of the European Physics Society and other benefits.

BEST Ph.D. ORAL COMMUNICATION

A Diploma and travel prize of up to 300 euros will be awarded to the best Ph.D oral communication (travel/hotel invoices required). Please apply to  gefam@rseq.org before May 15, 2025, including the title of your presentation. 

PARTICIPATION GRANTS

Registration waivers may be granted to a certain number of Ph.D. students or postdocs, depending on the number of attending people. Please apply to  gefam@rseq.org before May 15, 2025, including a CV. Priority will be given to low-income countries or justified cases, and will be decided by the GEFAM board.
